Our dialogue activities aim to sustain and contribute to the inclusive, grassroots dialogue process conducted by the Peace Makers Libya team in a continuous way since January 2015. The Peace Makers dialogue was initially conducted through cooperation with the Middle East Directions Programme at the European University Institute (2015-2022). Since June 2022, the Mediterranean Platform at Luiss School of Government has become the main partner of the Peace Makers Libya team.
Collaboration with the Peace Makers team was born out of the understanding that a political agreement between Libya’s key parties to the conflict could not bring about positive and sustainable change without wider, grassroots participation in the dialogue process. Conducted in parallel and in support of the United-Nations–led mediation efforts, the Peace Makers dialogue initiatives have therefore promoted an inclusive, bottom-up reconciliation process.
The Peace Makers Libya team has gained a reputation as respected and successful dialogue facilitators, both in Libya and among international actors. Over the years, it has built a wide network of contacts, including high-level figures among political leaders, members of the divided political institutions, social leaders, technocrats and intellectuals, artists and civil society figures from across the country. Over the last couple of years, Libya’s youth has been at the core of the team’s work.
