Giovanni Faleg

Senior Fellow

Dr. Giovanni Faleg is a Senior Fellow at the Mediterranean Platform of the Luiss School of Government. He works as an Advisor at the National Cybersecurity Agency of Italy. He is also an affiliate at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies. 

Prior to that, Dr. Faleg was a Senior Analyst and Project Director at the European Union Institute for Security Studies (2018-2023). He worked for the World Bank (2014-2018), the Centre for European Policy Studies (2011-2018) and the Istituto Affari Internazionali (2013). He holds a PhD in European Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2014). 

During his career, he has held visiting positions at several research institutions, including the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, King’s College London; and has been a guest lecturer at the European University Institute – Florence School of Transnational Governance, the European Security and Defence College, the Institut national du service public (France) and the Instituto da Defesa Nacional (Portugal), among others. 

He is the author of many academic and policy-oriented publications on international and European security, including the monograph “The EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy: Learning Communities in International Organizations” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016). 

Dr. Faleg’s main research interests lie at the intersection of policy and research. They include EU’s foreign and security policies, the wider Mediterranean and Africa, geopolitics, strategic foresight, conflict prevention, cybersecurity, hybrid threats, emerging technologies, communities of practice and institutional learning.
