Prof. Collombier long interview for Quotidiano Nazionale
On 6 February 2025, Professor Virginie Collombier was interviewed by Quotidiano Nazionale on Libya’s political and economic landscape in the aftermath of Almasry liberation.
She described Libya as relatively stable but still divided between the Tripoli government of Dbeibeh and eastern Libya controlled by General Haftar. Despite their rivalry, both sides cooperate financially, benefiting from oil revenues, infrastructure projects, and illicit trafficking.
During the interview Prof. Collombier warned that Libya’s fragile balance—crucial for Italy’s energy and migration policies—could collapse if political tensions rise or conflicts in the Middle East and Africa intensify migration flows. The European Union should go beyond a migration-focused approach and support a more inclusive political process for lasting stability.
The interview is available in Italian.
