Prof. Virginie Collombier was asked by La Croix to comment on Italy's recent migration policies
On 23 October, Prof. Virginie Collombier was asked by Laure Giuily for La Croix to comment on the recent developments that have stalled the implementation of Italy-Albania migration deal.
Prof. Collombier stated that the Italian Government attempt to establish by law which countries can be considered safe amounts to questioning the primacy of European law over national law.
She also said that externalization policies and agreements with countries of origin and transit are not only ethically questionable but also ineffective. Migration data show that, while the numbers may decrease in the short term, such policies do not stop people from leaving. They mostly produce changes in routes.
