Prof. Narbone interview for Italia Oggi
“This is a truce, not yet a real peace. Ending decades of conflict will require a phase two that addresses all the long-term issues.”
Today, Prof. Luigi Narbone was interviewed by Alessandra Ricciardi for Italia Oggi to discuss the recent Gaza ceasefire and its medium- and long-term implications.
He pointed to two central challenges: the disarmament of Hamas and the future governance of Gaza. Without clear agreement and viable political pathways on these issues, the deal may not hold.
Prof. Narbone highlighted the key role played by U.S. pressure, particularly from President Trump, in securing the agreement. He also noted the potential political shifts in Israel policies and the internal challenges the country will face, as well as the lack of an effective multilateral response by international organizations, whose role has been lately severely diminished by a polarized Security Council.
During the interview, he also broadened the conversation to touch on the region’s economic prospects and the broader geopolitical implications, including for China and the Russia–Ukraine war.
The interview is available in Italian.
