Our Scientific Coordinator Prof. Virginie Collombier was interviewed by DW News.

In a written interview for DW News on 19/04/2024, our Scientific Coordinator Prof. Virginie Collombier was interviewed by DW News, along with a number of leading experts, on the impact that the resignation of UN Special Envoy for Libya Bathily could have on the broader political situation in the country.

According to Prof. Collombier, Bathily’s resignation isn’t expected to have any significant repercussion on the ground. She underlined that Bathily’s efforts over the past year have mainly focused on shuttle diplomacy, aimed at persuading key parties to engage in high-level talks. However, he has failed to reach any valuable political achievement.

In conclusion, Prof. Collombier argued that Bathily’s resignation is likely to exacerbate the existing diplomatic vacuum, due the lack of political initiatives over the past year.

The interview is available in English.
