The event will explore recent developments in Syria, focusing on the significant changes that have unfolded since the fall of Assad. It will delve into the shifting dynamics within the country and the broader regional consequences, while also deepening the understanding of Syria’s rebel factions, highlighting their heterogeneity and ideological roots. This discussion aims to shed light on the complexities of this critical moment in Syria’s history.
Following the discussion, there will be a screening of Dounia and the Princess of Aleppo.
Dounia and the Princess of Aleppo is an animated feature film where reality and magic meet. Created and written by Marya Zarif, directed by Marya Zarif and André Kadi, and produced by Judith Beauregard, it tells the story of the migratory journey of a little girl and her grandparents, who leave the war, and with it, their city of Aleppo in Syria.
The event will feature:
– Silvia Carenzi, PhD Candidate in Transnational Governance at Scuola Normale Superiore and an Associate Research Fellow at the Italian Institute for International Political Studies. Her research interests lie at the intersection between armed conflict and political violence; contentious politics; and Islamic movements — with a focus on Syria.
– Élise Daniaud Oudeh, PhD candidate in politics and a teaching assistant at LUISS, as well as an associate researcher at the Mediterranean platform, and a fellow at EUME (Berlin).
– Fouad Roueiha, Syrian-Italian journalist and expert in community radio and media cooperation. His work has focused on human rights and grassroots democratization processes in the Mediterranean region.
