Local Reconciliations

[Funding: NOREF – Norwegian Centre for Conflict Resolution]

The first Peace Makers’ dialogue meetings, organised in 2015-2016, offered a space for dialogue to social leaders with influence at the local level across Libya. They aimed at addressing some of the key issues created by the resumption of violent conflict in several regions (the Nafusa Mountains, the South, and the Central region at the time confronted to the rooting of the Islamic State in the city of Sirte) and at supporting efforts towards local and national reconciliation.

The Peace Makers social dialogue meetings directly contributed to prisoner exchanges, the increased circulation of people and humanitarian assistance, the return of IDPs and the withdrawal of military forces in a number of conflict areas.
