“Osama Almasri Najim plays a key role in overseeing migrant control in Libya.”

On 24 January 2025, Professor Virginie Collombier, our Scientific Coordinator, was recently invited by RFI Afrique Midi to discuss the recent arrest and subsequent release of Osama Almasri Najim, a powerful figure within the RADA forces and the supervisor of several migrant detention centers in western Libya.

During the interview, Professor Collombier emphasized how cooperation with Libyan militias is a cornerstone of the EU’s migration containment strategy. She also highlighted how the policy of externalization has significantly influenced the EU’s approach to relations with Mediterranean neighbors over the past year.
