Prof Narbone published an article in the Huffington Post.

“If one thing is clear from the ongoing Middle East crisis is the dangerous absence of a Western political-diplomatic strategy”.

On 13/03/2024, Prof Narbone published an article in the Huffington Post commenting on current developments in the Middle East and analysing the West’s diplomatic and military involvement in the region.

In the article, Prof Narbone gave an overview of the unfolding negative developments in the three fronts of the current conflict: the Gaza War, the deteriorating situation at the Israel-Lebanon border and the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, focusing particularly on the latter unfolding crisis and on the responses of western and regional actors.

Prof Narbone underlined that, the given the maximalist objectives of all actors involved, the purely military, reactive and unilateral posture of Western actors is unlikely to succeed in fostering the much needed de-escalation and could push the Middle East towards scenarios of greater violence and regional war.

According to our director, it is worrying and shortsighted that the attention of the international community has not been more meaningfully focused on opening new dialogue channels and the search for long term political solutions.

The article is available in Italian.
